The block paving colour change process begins with the application of a specialist chemical treatment to the paving, whether it is a driveway or patio, allowing the solution time to work into the surface and loosen ingrained soiling. Once the treatment has taken effect, a rotary surface cleaner is used to thoroughly clean the blocks, removing dirt, grime and surface contamination, as well as lifting weeds and moss from the joints between each block. After this stage is complete, all loosened dirt and debris is collected and disposed of correctly, followed by a gentle soft wash to ensure every area is clean, and the surface is then left to dry for approximately 24 hours; the concrete stain is subsequently applied by brush, with the first coat acting as a primer and soaking into the block, and a further two coats added to build up the full, consistent finish.
When this coating stage has been completed, the area is left to dry for a further 24 hours before kiln dried sand is applied to the joints and a suitable sealer is added to complete the job to a high standard. The product used is not a paint or a pigmented sealer that may peel or fade over time; instead it is a penetrating stain that bonds with the surface and will not flake or peel under normal conditions. This system is suitable only for previously unsealed block paving surfaces.
